Penticton Search and Rescue were called in after a vehicle plunged hundreds of feet down an embankment in the South Okanagan.

The incident began when An SUV got stuck in a ditch off Carmi Avenue Sunday evening around 8pm.

After attempting to drive out, the man behind the wheel eventually succeeded in dislodging his tires. But the speed sent the vehicle across the road over the edge of a 100 metre cliff.

A man in his 40’s was found hundreds of feet away from his vehicle at the bottom of the cliff.

Search and Rescue brought in their rope rescue team to help the injured man.

The victim was taken to Penticton hospital with serious injuries, but has since been transported to Kelowna General Hospital for surgery.
