A disabled Kelowna woman is still in shock after a taxi driver refused to take her home.

Florence Ewing, who uses a motorized wheelchair, says a Kelowna Cabs driver refused her a ride home on Wednesday night.

Ewing and a friend had just finished grocery shopping and had nine bags of groceries with them.

She says the cab driver told the pair they had too many groceries and he would not take them home.

Sarah Reinhart, who was with Ewing, adds the driver then told the dispatcher the pair had two grocery carts, which they say was not true.

A family member showed up an hour later to take the groceries, but because the car was not wheelchair accessible, Ewing was forced to take the bus and arrived home two hours after the cab driver left her on the curb.

Kelowna Cabs says Ewing was treated unacceptably; supervisor Veronica Barker says Ewing deserves an apology.

The company adds they will investigative the incident when they receive a formal complaint from Ewing.

According to Barker, the cab driver has been suspended until he responds to the allegations.

Ewing says she came forward so others feel more comfortable speaking up about discriminating incidents.
