There is no vacancy at the Vernon SPCA but that isn’t stopping people from dropping off more and more unwanted animals.

The shelter is overwhelmed with abandoned felines this spring.

Spokesperson Corinne Ross says there are more than 100 cats and kittens at the shelter, stretching the small staff and volunteer resources to the limit.

However the situation in Vernon isn’t unique.

Spring is the time of year when shelters all over B.C. become a dumping ground for unwanted felines.

Ross says the situation could have been prevented if owners spayed and neutered their cats.

She’s hoping people in the North Okanagan can provide the felines with homes.
