Mike Roberts is probably best-known as the
Okanagan's very own weatherman(not a meteorologist). He came to CHBC Kelowna
from CHEK-TV in Victoria in 1973 and since then has filled his days producing
hundreds of stories on the people of the Okanagan. These days the stories are
seen on "CHBC News at 5:30". He considers the Good News Bears Food
Bank Fundraiser to be a fundraiser that became a Christmas tradition. He
considers his association with Bill Barlee in "Gold Trails and Ghost
Towns" to be a remarkable piece of good fortune and a lasting contribution
to understanding B.C.'s history.
Mike is committed to community involvement and
continues to be the Central Okanagan United Way Honorary Chair, a role he's
played since 1993. He's also the honorary chair of the Okanagan College Capital
Campaign.
For his work he has received the Queen's Jubilee
Medal, The Governor General's Caring Canadian Award, The Order of the Beaver,
The B.C. Association of Broadcasters Performer of the Year Award, and the Anita
Tozer Award for outstanding contribution to the community.
Mike is blessed with a marriage of 40 years,
three remarkable sons, daughters-in-law who abide him and five delightful
grand-children. He has nurtured an obsession with golf and loves
Okanagan apples and wine.
