Santa Claus goes swimming in Kelowna

Santa Claus is used to riding his sleigh in the snow but on Saturday, St. Nick found himself swimming in the Central Okanagan and it was all for a good cause.

The first annual Slide with Santa event took place at the Fairfield Inn in Kelowna Saturday afternoon.

Parents paid $7 for their children to have a picture taken with Santa then kids got the chance to slide down the big red slide outside the hotel.

The family event also featured arts and crafts but organizers say the biggest draw of all was seeing Santa go down the slide and into the pool.

“It is not exactly North Pole,” said Lona Manning, executive director for Habitat for Humanity Kelowna. “It is a little warmer than what he is used to but I am sure he will be alright.”

All proceeds from the fundraiser go directly to the local Habitat for Humanity chapter, which recently gave two families the ultimate Christmas gift, a new home.
